Calgary SE Landscaping and Hardscaping Project

This great walk out property in South East Calgary, which backs onto a lake access path, had the perfect natural slope to construct this stunning water feature. The client wanted a large patio with a custom fireplace which we constructed with masonry blocks and Moose Mountain natural stone from Montana. We added low voltage LED lighting under the caps for a stunning effect at night. The river has two natural Rundle stone bridges and one Cedar wood bridge. The water feature was constructed with several different stones such as Moose Mountain, Rundle, Kendal, Limestone and river rock. The ‘Pondless’ base of the feature was double up with a three rock bubbler to add more of that peaceful water sound. This tranquil backyard feels like a world away while still being in the city.

Landscape Design – Outdoor fireplace

An integrated landscape design involves both planning the overall layout of a property and designing the specific elements and plants that will be used on that property. The landscape design includes elements such as practicality, aesthetics, horticulture, and environmental sustainability, which are often divided into hardscapes and softscapes. An outdoor fireplace is a great softscaping feature, which can add a feeling of comfort to cool Calgary evenings.   Add a fireplace and/or fire pit to your alfresco space and you’ll enjoy drinking and eating outdoors even when the temperature drops. Keep reading for tips on how to make the most out of your outdoor area and make summer last a little longer. We have some interesting ideas to share

Fire Pit Tables: They look awesome if you have a sofa-style sitting arrangement in the middle of your lawn. These tables come in a variety of sizes. The heights are usually up to 2 or 3 ft. Gas-powered options are available but they cannot be used for cooking purposes.

Fire Bowls: Due to their simple, contemporary design and versatility, Fire Bowls are the hottest trend right now and an ideal choice for outdoor landscaping. The Fire Bowls are available in a range of sizes and styles, allowing them to easily fit into any outdoor space. A riser extends from the bottom of the Fire Bowls, elevating them slightly off the ground. A variety of colors and textures can be found in the Fire Bowls, which are handmade from glass fiber reinforced concrete.

Fire Columns: Stylish, young sibling to the fire pit, this fire pit style lets you roast s’mores and adds a bit of style to your home. Unlike fire bowls and pits, fire columns are usually powered by propane and have a tall, slim profile. Low fire bowls and pits are often described as having wild, primal characteristics, while elongated fire columns have a more refined and elegant quality. It’s less of a campfire and more of a decorative piece that provides warmth.

Outdoor linear fireplace: This fireplace fit right into the wall and is usually gas-powered. On windy Calagary afternoons, they are the perfect choice to keep your pergola warn. They are the most expensive option among all ideas, but they also add up the most elegant and up-class look to your outdoor landscape.

Fire pits: Well they can be the cheapest option if you are considering having a permanent fireplace with good heating capacity. They are usually made of the cemented wall in a variety of shapes. They are also ideal if you want to have a bonfire party. In most cases, they are gas-powered. Small portable options are also available. Both fire columns and fire bowls can also be categorized as fire pits.

Masonry Outdoor fireplace kits: These are large masonry fireplaces available for both prefabricated installation and on-site construction. They are usually built with stones or extra fire-resistant concrete blocks. Alongside your fireplace, you can also add wood boxes made of stone. Boxes like these provide easier access to wood than a wood rack, inches away from the fireplace.

DIY Fireplaces: Well, with this type of fireplace, you have the liberty to chose the design. All you need is mortar, bricks, and a steel pipe for the chimney and you are ready to go. However, it is not recommended if you do have not any prior experience on similar projects. You should also check the type of mortal and the bricks for their rated fire performance to avoid an incident. Your desired fireplace can also be organized to be built by your landscape designer.

We at Urban Oasis offer various design alternatives for your fireplace, from which you can pick the one that suits you.

What Our Clients Say…

“I enlisted the help of Urban Oasis after I saw the results of a neighbor’s yard a few door down. Mike was quick to set up our first meeting to review yard and deck work, and a few weeks later got to work on the landscaping. Urban Oasis started on time and ended on budget. The competitive advantage this company brings is in their dedication to do the job right and to pay attention to the details. They are also very clean – tools were removed from the job site every day, construction materials were neatly stacked and driveway/walkway hosed-down to remove any dirt or mud. It was always safe to walk around at the end of the day, or to let my dog roam the yard. And in the end, I loved the results! I highly recommend Urban Oasis…”

“Renovations are always challenging but this went quite smoothly and I am very pleased with the result. Mike is plain spoken, honest and easy to work with. He understood my vision of what I wanted in my yard and had wonderful creative solutions to bring it to life. They put up with my irritable neighbors and my few small project changes without batting an eye. Costs were laid out clearly and easy to understand. The project came in slightly over budget due to some changes that I initiated, and some unforeseen challenges, but extra costs were more than fair. I would recommend Urban Oasis Developments highly”

They were very efficient and made sure things were done right. I also was impressed at how they tidied up at the end of each day before leaving. I would not hesitate to recommend Mike and his crew to anyone looking to do any landscaping projects.
